Ay Yi Yi!

It's been a LONG day. Nothing different from any other day really, but I think Elah and I both got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning :( I was grouchy, she was grouchy, and both of us were short on patience... and daddy paid for it LOL! Oh well, we got through it!

In other news... we are letting Elah try new foods every now and then until we start really trying to get her to eat in a couple of weeks. Today was green beans.

Yea... she wasn't a fan. I didn't even have to put it IN her mouth for her to make this face, she saw green and made awful faces, LOL!

In other news, we found out this week that Justin's cousin is having a boy so I'm working on a few things for their little one. I'm also working on leggies to sale on Little Angels Bowtique (a boutique full of stuff made by me and my two aunts). Eventually I'll start making burp cloths, cloth wipes, dresses, and flower clips... and I'm hoping to make some nursing covers too. We'll see!

Elah has also discovered her tongue and it is the cutest thing EVER!

Projects

I tackled a few of my projects... one being Elah's tutu! I actually finished it a week or so ago! However, next time, remind me NOT to buy glittery tulle. WHY oh WHY did I think that was a good idea?

So I flipped her on her belly...

I can't decide what her eyes are doing... are they turning brown? Turning green? Perhaps staying hazel? Either way... they're beautiful!

Then we went to Nana's house to get some pictures outside!

But Boogie got tired of glitter...

I had a half-finished pink tutu WITHOUT glitter... so we tried it on...

Hm... tutus apparently aren't our favorite!

The next day...... I took Boogie to see her godmother and her "man"...

which has NOTHING to do with crafty projects... but Jesse is so handsome, I had to share!

I also (with mom's help ofcourse... I can't do anything or get anything done with Elah! ha!) dyed the fabric for my new wrap....

The color is pretty exact... it was supposed to be a really pretty tropical blue, but since the fabric is made of natural fibers, it turned out the greenish teal color you see in the fabric in the sink. Mom is being kind enough to hem it for me, and I can't wait to try it out!



I've got several projects I'm in the middle of... new leggies for Boogie, fabric cut out (atleast some of it) for nursing pads, new cloth wipes, dresses for Elah, and then mom is going to make me a new nursing cover... but I think I might try and do some of that and she can help with the parts I'm not so good at, LOL!

Getting Back to Normal

Coming home from vacation sucks, not gonna lie! I hate unpacking... I hate putting things away... and I hate that Elah's schedule is SO MESSED UP. I've just now gotten around to catching up on diaper laundry... just haven't put them away... and our laundry is so piled up it's ridiculous! I've also avoided tackling all of these things by walking to my mom's house w/Elah everyday (mom is on Spring Break). Saturday, this is going to change... it HAS to change! I have stuck to our menu plan though! We aren't necessarily going in order, but we are cooking dinner every night!

On top of all the housework that needs to be done, I'm working on several crafty projects! Well... technically mom will be helping me with a lot of them, because I'm still learning some how to do some sewing projects. But here is my list:

• Summer Dresses for Elah (maybe 3 to start with)
• Baby legs or I call my version "Leggies"
• Cloth Wipes
• Cloth Breast Pads
• Tutu... yes... and it's sparkly. Really.
• Felt Flower Clips
• Flower Clips
• Nursing Cover
• And..... I might be adding a homemade woven wrap into the mix!

Yea... that's a lot of stuff ontop of everything else, but it will get done! And did I mention that I'm about oh... 9 months behind in Elah's scrapbook(s)? I haven't even started on the pages with pictures of HER... I'm just now on the pages of my belly pictures!

Now... I must finish diaper laundry, hang the wet ones to dry, and start on the regular laundry while I have a few minutes of "mommy alone time" before Elah wakes to nurse and be changed before starting her long sleep stretch! Night!

Project 365: Day 57

Today I worked on making some prefolds for Elah's diapers... I am making them out of old tshirts and they are turning out surprisingly (sp?) better than I thought! I'm still not super great at sewing straight, but I'm getting there. Each prefold takes me about 30-45 minutes to do. This includes cutting the tshirts, pinning them, sewing them, etc. So far I've only made 2, right now it's hard for me to sit behind the sewing machine, it really just kills my back!

A Project for Next Christmas

When I was little my mom made an advent calendar for Christmas, and we used it EVERY year... and as far as I can remember she still hangs it up. It's definately worn and loved, and the sticky glue stuff she put on the back of the ornaments doesn't stick as well... but I remember fighting with Dylan EVERY day in December to be the one that got to put the next ornament up to count down til Christmas. So next year, probably starting in the spring so that I don't get overwhelmed with school, Elah, and another sewing project, I am going to start making an advent calendar for our family. I love this blog called Homemade by Jill... not only does she have two beautiful children (I love to see her update with pictures of them, they have the best eyes!)but she is a crafty momma! She posts some of the coolest tutorials and pictures of things she's made for her home, gifts and for her children. Recently I posted about some burp cloths that I made for Elah (as well as some I made last year for Janelle), well I found that tutorial on Jill's blog! Well... check THIS out! That is something she's been working on for her family! I LOVE it! So that is what I will be working on next year, with a little help from my mom. I still have lots to learn about sewing, but now that Elah is going to be here soon, it makes me want to learn that much more! I can't wait to get started!

Project 365: Day 52

I finally finished the burp cloths! Now they are sitting nice and pretty on Elah's shelf :-D

And I never did share pictures of Elah's diapers all washed and ready in her drawers!

The drawers are both mixed...

 The white ones are Econobums, the pink ones you see in the picture below are Flips, and the rest in both drawers in multiple colors and prints are Kawaii's... which are almost exactly like the diapers I'm going to order in the spring called Go Green Pocket Diapers!

 Here's the drawer of extra inserts - these are Econobum prefolds and Kawaii Bamboo Inserts.

 These are the Kawaii Microfiber and Flip Microfiber inserts...

Project 365: Day 49

I've almost made it to Day 50... and I've kind of sort of kept up with this challenge! Woohoo!

Anyways, today I am being super duper productive. What's wrong with me?! I'm thinking that nesting has seriously set in... so far today I've done 3 loads of laundry, including prewashing Elah's cloth diapers, worked on the burp cloths I'm making, finished a paper for one of my classes, a quiz for another, and started studying for an upcoming exam! That's a lot considering I haven't done much of anything this entire pregnancy!

First picture... this is the top of a blanket I started for J's nanny in February... of 2009. Really. So once I finish the burp cloths I think I'm going to start finishing that... MAYBE it will get done for Christmas, but I doubt it. Otherwise my goal is to atleast have it finished to give to her for Mother's Day!
And... introducing Singer. My sewing machine. My mom bought her for me about 2 years ago I believe... yea. I'm slowly but surely learning... I suck at straight lines, and I've only managed to make a few things! When Janelle was pregnant with James and Jonathan I made 2 bibs and a set of burp cloths for them... and I've made a baby blanket, a dog blanket, and several tops for other quilts (including the one above). I really want to make some clothes for Elah and some cute stuffed animals I found on http://www.homemadebyjill.blogspot.com/ . (Check her out, she ROCKS!)

This is what progress I've made on the burp cloths. Compared to the one's I made for Janelle and her boys these are HUGE! But I think they'll be better that way! I have about 6 left to sew and then I have to go back and cut around the edges so that they'll fray. I actually got the pattern from http://www.homemadebyjill.blogspot.com/ !

Project 365: Day 48

This is what we've done ALL day... work on Elah's first scrapbook. I'm currently working on the pages with baby bump pictures and sonograms...and I think Justin is working on the pages w/his family on them. Exhausted.

Project 365: Day 45

Well... I had a picture of all the scrapbook pages and stuff I'm using on my phone... and now it has disappeared :( Ugh.

I'm working on Elah's first scrapbook... I'm hoping to make a series of them for her so that she'll have them to look at with her future husband and children and grandchildren! I hope to do the same for any siblings we give her... but who knows. Knowing me, I'll slack off and not get it done :-\

Anyways, this first book starts with pictures of J and I when we first started dating, then it moves on to engagement pictures, wedding pictures, pictures of our families, pictures of Snickers and Mudgett... and then finally onto belly pictures, pregnancy tests (yes I kept them) and baby shower cards, pieces of wrapping paper and punch outs from the gift bags, etc. I can't wait to finish it :)

Project 365: Day 29

Mom redid the fabric on the Moses Basket that Janelle and I got from Kiwanis.... OWLS!

She made two sheets for it - the one already on the basket mastress and the other is folded in the basket :) I LOVE it!

Project 365: Day 1

Day 1 is all about Miss Elah :)

First up we have... a bag. A diaper bag to be exact, but not your typical diaper bag. This is going to be my husband's bag to carry around when he has Elah all to himself...KISS freak? Indeed! It has roomy pockets big enough for cloth diapers, and it even has it's own changing pad. I wasn't sure whether to be super excited or to laugh hysterically... but oh how I love my KISS freak :-D
Second, we have Elah's wall letters... which aren't yet finished but a work in project. They still need another coat of paint and I am going to add stripes and polka dots :-D

Hmmmm... A Few New Ideas

I'm hoping to add some more pizazz to this blog of mine... first I want to re customize it. I'd also like to incorporate some crafty things including quilts I'm working on, loom projects, and possibly some crafty ideas I have for some little monsters I know ;-). I'd also like to ask my mom about getting copies of my great grandma's recipes and possibly do one a week and post about it with pictures and the recipes to share. But for now it's just a thought.

So I have lots of updates today.... drum roll please....

James and Jonathan are officially here! They arrived on Sunday, December 20th at 8:26pm & 8:27pm. Both are doing well and so is Ms. Janelle. I'm soooo excited for her and her family, and I'm sooooo excited to meet these two new Flint monsters in the future!

I have been working on a quilt for my husband's nanny, it's burgundy and white (with a burgandy floral print)... it's almost finished, all I have left is to buy the batting, tied the square corners and finish the edges. Whoo! Since I'm currently snowed in and can't buy the rest of the materials I need, I have also started cutting 1 inch squares out of all my scraps for a throw for well... me! I have scraps leftover from a few things I made James & Jonathan, scraps from Nanny's quilt, scraps from a quilt I made Justin, and some various scraps bought at thrift stores. I'm lovvvving being crafty!

I am still snowed in. My car is BURIED and our drive way is literally over a foot deep in snow. Luckily my inlaws came and rescued me yesterday and took my husband and I to pick up a few groceries. Thank goodness for macho man trucks right? LOL

My friend Hannah is finally home from school! YAY! She was stuck in her apartment because of the snow but was finally able to drive back to our good old mountains safe and sound! Can't wait to see my friend!

Mine and my husband's friends from Michigan flew down on Saturday and had some issues getting to the house they are staying at, but thank goodness they finally made it! Can't wait to see them either!

It's currently 12:36am Eastern Time, so Christmas is officially 3 days away! Yikes! We are having a family Christmas Party at my mom's house on Christmas Eve, which is great except that my Granny can't get from the nursing home to my mom's house... which is why I tried to get them to have the party at the nursing home so she could participate... guess I'm to young to know better right? So that's a little disappointing, but Justin is going to help me prepare some yummy foods and puree them for her so that she can enjoy some of our holiday goodness!

I'm also happy to announce that this year, Justin and I are spending our own Christmas at home. In the past 3 Christmas' we've had together we have run around to my parents, his parents, grandparents... EVERYWHERE and made the holiday so stressful we just wanted it to go away. Well not this year! However... unfortunately Justin has to work 12pm to 8pm which puts a bit of a damper on things, but since he works in the nursing home my Granny lives at... I'll most likely go and spend the day with her. So that works out pretty well I think.
