New Look

Thanks to my Aunt Tracee, I found a great new layout for my blog! So, I'm updating here and there, including some stuff in my pages... so bare with me while I'm "under construction"... and please pray for my Boogie, she's caught a bug and we're hoping she'll start feeling better soon!

M.I.A.

Yikes, I've really been M.I.A. this past week haven't I? Guess I have some explaining to do then, eh? Well, for starters, we didn't get the house... and after praying about it we decided not to get it BEFORE we heard we didn't get it. I don't even want to get into the logistics, or the reasons... just that God is showing us the way. We are looking at an apartment, yes another apartment, down the street today. The ONLY reason we are looking at this apartment is because it's managed by the company that originally managed the one we are in. Our current landlord is horrendous. Horrible. Irresponsible... I could go on, but I'll stop there. So, it's pretty much the exact kind of apartment we're in now, same price, same amenities with the added bonus of a deck. It would be a huge weight off of our shoulders to be back with a rental company we trust and actually know us and have worked with us before. So that's that... I'll update later on how that goes.

Last week was Valentine's Day and we were supposed to have Boogie's pictures taken by an AMAZING photographer on Monday, but she got sick and had to reschedule so we decided to take our vacation a little early (which as you'll read later on was a good thing). We left Monday afternoon after J got off work and headed to Gatlinburg, TN. We actually decided to stay on the interstate instead of going through Cosby like we typically do because it had been raining and such a lot that day and didn't want to hit any ice on the way. We ate dinner in Sevierville and finally made it to our hotel around 7ish. We stayed in a phenomenal hotel, it's called the Bearskin Lodge. I've actually posted about it before but we didn't end up staying there during the trip we had planned on in that post. It's on a back road very close to downtown Gatlinburg and it is so so so cozy. It's decorated like a mountain cabin, and the rooms are SO nice. We stayed in a King Suite, it had (obviously) a king sized bed, a pull-out couch, a gas fireplace, a whirlpool tub, and a city view. My only complaint is that there wasn't a rocking chair... but obviously most hotels don't have those! But with a child who doesn't sleep unless she's rocked and nursed... it made our nights a little bit difficult!

On Valentine's Day we decided to drive to Sevierville to eat at our favorite restaurant for Breakfast, the Apple Barn. If you have never been... please go, they have a phenomenal breakfast and their apple fritters, apple butter, and apple julep are to die for! Boogie also LOVES their apple muffins! Then we headed back to Gatlinburg to spend the rest of our day. We headed to the aquarium first, which was quite affordable this time thanks to the hotel management at our hotel who gave us a free pass! We were so excited to see Boogie's reaction to all the fish and ocean animals, the last time we were there she had just turned 3 months and could care less that we were surrounded by such beauty! She had a ball this time though! She also thought all the fish were 'balls', lol! She'd put her hands against the glass and just talk and squeal at the fish, it was wonderful! The best part was getting to see the giant sea turtle in the largest tank, Boogie loves turtles!

The rest of the day we spent walking around downtown Gatlinburg exploring the shops and such, we even decided to kill some time by visiting Ripley's Believe it Or Not... but honestly I wasn't all that impressed! Our day ended at The Melting Pot. I wasn't as impressed this time around, mainly because they had only ONE four course menu to eat from... meaning non choices. Kind of takes the fun out of it! But it was still yummy, and Boogie didn't scream the entire time like she did last time!

Since we went to dinner super super early as to not disturb the couples without children (seriously, we ate at 2:15pm), we decided to go ahead and go to Sevierville again to shop at some of the stores in the Tanger outlet. We didn't really need anything, but we thought it would be fun to look anyways. I actually found some great deals at Osk Kosh B Gosh and Naartjie (which is my new favorite store btw).

Wednesday morning we packed up our stuff and headed home, we stopped about 25 minutes from home to eat breakfast at Cracker Barrel and then stopped at a store in downtown Asheville to get a few used diapers and then we finally made it home. THANK GOODNESS.

The rest of the week is a bit of a blur... I watched a friend's baby on Thursday... and then Friday. Oh Friday. The morning and afternoon were completely normal... and then that evening the norovirus hit me. The norovirus is the virus of DEATH. It is absolutely miserable. I couldn't move, lay down, hold my child, nurse my child... it was awful. I was confined to the recliner in a reclined sitting position, and J had to help me in and out of it because I was so weak from vomiting and dehydration. I never want to relive that again. Thankfully my mother in law came and stayed the night and helped with Boogie, who was SUCH a good girl. She handled everything so well and didn't hate me the next day for not holding or nursing her ALL night. Saturday morning my mom came over when J went to work, I was done getting sick and feeling much better but I was incredibly weak and VERY dehydrated. I had a fever and a monstrous headache and was extremely dizzy. I felt that way pretty much all day until I was able to get re-hydrated with water and Gatorade. I was able to (and felt comfortable enough) to nurse Boogie around 2 that day and thankfully there was still milk to be found!

Yesterday was better, but I was still weak... Boogie and I spent the majority of the day in the recliner resting and her nursing. She was very cuddly, which I'm thankful for... I felt terrible that I couldn't be near her Friday night. I didn't want her to get sick and took some medication that wouldn't have been safe for her if she had nursed (truthfully the medicine didn't do squat... but I was hoping it would give me some relief). I'm still weak today, but I've been able to get up and move and play with Boogie a bit more today. Oh and to top off that weekend... due to not nursing Boogie for almost 16 hours dear Aunt Flo paid a visit after 61 days of not seeing her... yay.

That pretty much sums up our week... I will update again with what we decide to do with this other apartment and with pictures from our trip. Hope everyone else had a MUCH better weekend than we did!

Starting 2012 With....

A double ear infection. Yea. Great fun! For the past two weeks Boogie has slowly gone from a decent sleeper to a screaming all night not wanting to sleep baby. Typically she'd go 3-4 (usually 4) hours between waking, then we had one night where she slept 8 hours, but every night since then she slowly started waking up more frequently. These past several nights have been awful. Waking up screaming, not wanting to be put down, digging in her ears (which isn't abnormal for her... she always messes with her ears when she's very sleepy, but obviously there was more to it this time), only sleeping while being held, not wanting to nurse like usual. It was horrible. I felt like a horrible mother. I felt hopeless... there was nothing I could do to comfort her. Then someone mentioned that she might have an earache. Bingo!

After last night I was desperate for answers. I was up until 1am walking, rocking, holding, nursing, bouncing... doing whatever I could to make her comfortable. I finally got her into her bed after that, but she woke up frequently. Luckily J didn't have to be at work until 9:30am so he got up a few times and helped me out when he could. It was a LONG night for all of us. This morning I made an appointment with the pediatrician... not one we had met yet, but I really wanted to have her ears checked. So, mom picked us up and we headed to the ped's office. She screamed when they took her temperature (in her ear), she didn't know this particular doctor so she freaked out when she touched her, she screamed when she checked her ears... it was NOT fun. But we had our answer. Double ear infection. After an entire year of only having two colds and yucky case of diarrhea.... Boogie decided to start the new year with a bang. Her first ear infections. Anyways... that's how it's going now. We got home around lunchtime and Boogie had taken a short nap in mom's car, so she was in no mood to take another. I finally got her to lay down with me in the recliner at 3:30 and we both took a LONG 2 hour nap. So... it's 8pm right now and J is still rocking her to sleep. She's not crying... just enjoying cuddles with her daddy I guess! If you don't know... Boogie typically falls asleep at 6:30, so it will be interesting to see how this late bedtime will affect the rest of our night! Well... please say a little prayer for our girl as she fights off this double ear infection!

Poop Happens.

Yea, I said poop. I don't curse, otherwise I'd say something else! I have never been more sick of changing poopy nasty diapers than this week... I have even been tempted to just go buy a box of disposables until this tummy thing is OVER! But I KNOW that those sposies would never hold all this poo like her cloth do. Ay yi yi. I have gone through more cloth this week than when Boogie was a newborn... I've washed 4 loads of diapers already this week.... and on a normal week I'd have just now washed a 3rd load.... but today. I'll be washing the 5th load. Ew. What's worse is that Boogie NEVER poops at night, but now because of this bug or whatever it is she has, she sleeps a 4-5 hour stretch (which is AWESOME), wakes up to nurse, and then poops. Then what does she do? She's up for the day... there's no getting this girl back to sleep. So we've been up since 4am, I've got a load of clothes washing... and as soon as those are done, her next load of diapers will be washed. Boogie's watching a Veggie Tales movie while I drink a glass of water and pretend it has loads of caffeine in it and pray that in about an hour or two we can both lay on the couch and take a long LONG nap.

Long Week

So far this week has been LONG. And yea, it's just barely Wednesday. My poor Boogie has some kind of stomach bug so we've had a lot of firsts this week... I'm sure you're dying to know what those were. First time pooping in the tub (and let's just say it wasn't pretty), first major blow out in a cloth diaper (boy do I love cloth diapers.... seriously), and Boogie's learned to say baby. There's a good one at least!

Anyways, it's been a rough week with Boogie not feeling well and I'm still trying to get over this cold. J is back to work after his long week off and I'm missing him when he's gone! He is so wonderful and helpful... he let me sleep in EVERY morning last week. It was AMAZING. And I don't have a graceful way to end this short rambling... so goodnight!

Five Question Friday, A Little Whining, and a Blogging/Social Media Hiatus

First up we have....

1. Dream job... realistic and completely unrealistic.
Realistic? Stay at home mommy... which is amazing! I NEVER though I would have the chance to stay home with our kids, but we are making it happen! Unrealistic? I'd love to be in charge of youth rallies and youth ministry outreaches like Xtreme Summer. Doing the worship would be AMAZING! But... that's very unrealistic. But, perhaps someday when my kids get older I can get involved with the youth group at our church?!?!

2. Do you fart in front of your significant other?
Bahahaha! Of course! Wouldn't it be kind of weird NOT too?

3. What's the furthest you've ever traveled from home? How far and where was it?
Orland, FL. I know... big whoop right? I went with the marching band my sophomore year of high school... we went to Disney World, Universal Studios, Downtown Disney, and Islands of Adventure.

4. How do you celebrate birthdays for your kids? Family only or friends?
We haven't reached Boogie's first birthday yet, but it's slowly creeping up on us! Actually... I should say it's quickly running up on us... Ay yi yi! I think we will be doing immediate family and close friends only. Meaning, a few friends, grandparents, uncles (Boogie only has 2), and godfamily.

5. Fave thing about fall?
What's NOT to like? I live in Western NC... the most BEAUTIFUL place in the world during this season! The changing leaves are spectacular and it's sweater weather. Woohoo!

And now... a little whining.

I'm getting sick. I haven't had a cold since Boogie was 4ish weeks old? Maybe 5ish weeks? My nose has slowly become stopped up over the course of the day, and now I feel feverish and yucky. Noooooooo! This means that more than likely Boogie will get sick too. So then, not only will I be taking care of a sick child, but also a sick child who has two top teeth slicing through her gums and causing her great pain. Can I say ay yi yi again? Ay yi yi. Good news amongst the bad? J gave me a nook for our anniversary last week, and it's AWESOME. I finally figured out how to get library books from the NC digital library downloaded onto it... so now I'm currently reading Water for Elephants. So far, it's great!

And finally... blogging/social media hiatus.

J and I were talking the other day and we decided to take a week long "vacation" from blogging and social media (aka Facebook and Twitter and for me... babycenter). Do you ever think about how much those sites and others you visit on a DAILY basis take away from your relationships and families? It's astonishing really. While I'm sitting on my phone checking facebook, I could be reading a book to my daughter, or cuddling with my husband having a good conversation. Ugh, it's sick. So... starting Sunday we're taking a break. We'll be back next Saturday.... maybe. And really, with all the crappy changes facebook is making (it's supposed to change again, and it looks like a myspace copy, blech.) I don't know if I even care to stop using it. Anyways. There you go. I'll probably blog once more before Sunday...so until next time... adieu.

Day One of Cooking

Today didn't start how we planned... I woke up with an awful headache, sore throat, dripping nose (ew) and my entire body ached. It's always a challenge to find ways to get over illnesses when your breastfeeding (or pregnant for that matter)... so I made sure to take my prenatal (it's good to take while breastfeeding and during all your 'childbearing' years), a single ibuprofen, lots of water, and a TON of orange juice. After a couple hours I felt a little more like myself and we were able to start our day of cooking!

Things went pretty well, we got the majority of our meals prepared, bagged, and thrown into the freezer, but because we started later than planned we didn't get about 5 or 6 meals finished, mainly breakfast items. Boogie was a good girl though, she only fussed a little today surprisingly. Sadly her necklace was NOT in the mail today, and it was evident that she was still having some pain from her teething, but not nearly as bad as yesterday.

Not really much to post tonight, but I will be taking pictures of our freezer food stash when we finish and possibly post one of the recipes tomorrow evening! Until then... here's a picture of my Boogie and her newly discovered feet!

Icky Weekend

This weekend was... umm.... icky? I caught some sort of stomach virus and started getting sick Saturday afternoon. I'm thinking it was something I ate, rather than catching a bug from the Flint Monsters, because nobody else in my family has gotten sick (thank goodness!). I was miserable, and actually ended up having my mom come over to help take care of me and Elah while J went to his parents house just in case I was contagious. It was a GOOD think mom was here, because by 9ish Saturday night I was really dehydrated and ended up blacking out. Scared the pee out of mom... and I was shaky and woozy the rest of the night. I'm so thankful mom had been here... what if I had been holding Elah? I don't even want to think about what might have happened! I'm feeling much better now, I managed to complete all my homework that I needed to work on this weekend, so J, Elah, and I will get to spend the day doing absolutely nothing tomorrow! Some much needed rest!

PS.... 17 DAYS UNTIL VACATION!

3.06.2011

Is it March 31st yet?

It has been a long weekend! We are at the tail end of this nasty cold (however J is at the very beginning of it... oops) and Elah has had a rough go of it this weekend. She coughed so much that she threw up all over herself and me... however that meant she got rid of a lot of that gunk she's been coughing up all week! She got choked last night on some and scared the crap out of me... needless to say... I cried, she cried... we just cried and cried. This morning while I was sleeping in, J took over and said that she coughed up a lot of yucky stuff this morning... so hopefully by tomorrow she'll be all better!

That explains why I didn't post last night though... it was a long, stressful night to say the least! I will start back up with my devo posts tomorrow night, right now I'm just going to read it and relax since my little boogie bear is sleeping! Night all!

I'm In No Hurry

I've been thinking a lot about my little girl today... how fast she is growing, how quickly she is learning new things... and then I think about the other children we plan on having and growing our family. What will they be like? Will we have all girls? Will we have any boys? What will they do when they grow up? Who will they marry? These have been circling through my head all day, and it just so happens that when I opened my devotion book today, it was about not being in a hurry for my baby to grow up. God knew my heart today didn't he? I hate seeing Elah grow up, but I LIVE for it as well. I love hearing her new coos and singy sounds, her huge gummy smiles and watching her try to roll. But I wish it would alllll slooooooooow doowwwwwn.

Today's verse was from Deuteronomy 28:4, "You will be blessed with many children and productive fields. You will be blessed with fertile herds and flocks." In other words... you will be blessed with kids and LATER you will be blessed with a clean house and things in order! I don't have time to get anything done right now, my life revolves around nursing, changing diapers, and taking naps with my baby girl. At night, despite the few minutes I have taken to blog and spend time with my Daddy in heaven... I work on homework. It never slows! At the moment... I have Elah FINALLY asleep (she coo'd herself to sleep tonight), a load of diapers in the washing machine, a load of Elah's clothes in the dryer, and another load of Elah's clothes waiting to be washed. And before Justin went to bed, I stuffed Elah's new Sunbaby Diapers, finished some of my homework and put away her clean diapers... wow. That all has happened in the past 1 hour. I'll admit that it bothers me that I don't get things done when I want them done.

I would love to get the entire house clean tomorrow and the laundry finished... but I know it won't happen and I am going to be content with that knowledge. I'm lucky to get a moment to myself while Justin is at work... but you know what? I am really OK with that. I am learning to push aside my tendency to be OCD and just enjoy these early months in Elah's life. She will obviously not be this little forever, she will never coo or sing like she did tonight when she gets bigger... she will only learn to roll once... I will not miss these milestones because I am too busy trying to do other things! So what if there's laundry scattered around the house. So what if my bathroom is a little dirty. SO WHAT if I wait til the last minute to turn in some of my homework. Kudos to all the mommy's out there who have a perfect clean house and all their laundry done... AND don't miss out on their kid's lives. I'm just not one of those women.

We took Elah to the pediatrician today to check on her cold, she developed a pretty nasty cough and we wanted to make sure she wasn't getting an ear infection or a lung infection. She's so little... I'm not taking any chances with her. Call me a first time mom... because I am one! Anyways, the point of that little spill was that I overheard a woman tell her daughter in the waiting room  (the little girl was maybe 8 or 9) that she was being a pain and that she needed to sit down, be still, and obey. From my point of view... all the little girl was doing was trying to get a better view of the cartoons that were playing in the corner. I think the quote from my devotion is one that that mother needs to hear...

Kids are a pain or a source of joy... depending on your focus. What is YOUR focus?

Sick :(

I am currently suffering from a cold of some sort... horrible sinus pressure along my cheekbones and nose, I can't breathe... and I think my throat is starting to get irritated as well. Yay me! Luckily Elah seems to be fine, with the exception of a little congestion, otherwise she's all smiles in the morning while mommy feels like poo!

Elah is getting so big! She has her 2 month check up tomorrow AND it's her 2 month birthday. I know I say this ALL the time, but this is going by far too fast! She smiles all the time and loves to coo at me super early in the morning, lol. She is quickly growing out of her 0-3 month clothes... atleast lengthwise, however because cloth diapers are a bit bulkier than sposies... that makes the clothes fit a little tighter! We haven't had anymore LONG stretches of sleep at night, the longest she sleeps is about 3 hours... which honestly, is AMAZING. Elah is also learning to put herself to sleep, as long as she is full, has a clean diaper, and is content... all I have to do at night after tending to her is lay her down in the cosleeper and she will fall asleep. If she gets a little fussy I turn on her giraffe (sound machine) and pat her belly or hold her hand and she drifts right off. It definately makes my nights a bit easier!

Vacation is coming soon! We leave in 32 days! I can't wait!

I'll update again tomorrow depending no how Elah is... this is an appointment w/shots... so no telling how she'll be. Pray for us!

Icky

I've had this runny snotty nose for about a week now... and I woke up this morning feeling like death. Ok. I'm being dramatic, I don't feel like death, but I do feel pretty awful! My throat is sore, my head is pounding and I can't breathe. On top of that, my entire body hurts from doing so much cleaning... which I don't regret but boy did it take a toll on my body! The only meds I've taken during this pregnancy was phenagren in the beginning and then zofran... and the ONLY reason I took them was to help me get through the day without puking everywhre. (I know, ew.) Other than that, nadda. I would love to down some nyquil right now and just put myself into a nap coma and wake up feeling brand new... but that's not going to happen!

Despite feeling icky, I'm happy to say that Justin actually enjoyed his birthday surprise yesterday! I guess typically a stay at home mom/wife would be doing that kind of cleaning all the time... but you might be surprised to know that Justin enjoys doing the cleaning and such on his own! I was incredibly blessed to find a man who loves to cook and clean! Doesn't mean I never clean or cook... but it does mean that I get out of it a LOT! LOL! He's an amazing cook, and he can make amazing boneless buffalo wings.... my favorite!

Also... every year the weekend near J's birthday is a special weekend in our hometown! We have an event called Holly Jolly downtown where all the little shops stay open late and serve free refreshments (like cookies, hot chocolate and cider)... there are luminaries lined up on the streets and around the lake... it's a lot of fun! Then on Saturday morning we have our Christmas parade. In high school I marched 3 years with the marching band in this parade. Practically the whole town shows up! Hopefully I'll start feeling better in time to really enjoy Holly jolly tonight.

Sick

My entire body is aching, my head is pounding, my nose is running, my throat is swollen from coughing, I'm cold and sweaty and I'm so dizzy I literally crawled to the kitchen to get some water this morning. I have been like this since Saturday afternoon. I started feeling "odd" Saturday morning. Luckily I'm on Fall Break until Wednesday... unluckily I have a lot of assignments due on Wednesday that I haven't even been able to start on due to this illness. I am currently laying on the couch watching the news... I've got about 5 blankets on me and I am still shivering... Mudgett is curled around my head and Snickers is wrapped around my feet. I'm so over this. UGH.
